A collection of short stories by William Makepeace Thackeray, first published in 1874. The stories are set in Paris in the late 1830s, when Thackeray was a young student there. They depict the life and adventures of various characters in the bohemian quarter of the city, such as artists, writers, actors, students and courtesans. The stories are humorous, satirical and sometimes sentimental, reflecting Thackeray’s own experiences and observations. The book is illustrated with five hand-coloured plates.
