It follows the lives and loves of two families, the Kellys and the OKellys, who are distantly related but have different social statuses. The book explores the themes of class, politics, religion, and romance in a humorous and realistic way. The book has an introduction by Terence de Vere White, who was an Irish writer and critic. The book is illustrated by Alexy Pendle, who is a British artist and illustrator. The book was published by The Folio Society in London in 1992 and has 424 pages.
